Nintendo expects fewer Switch 2 consoles in year two
After selling 19.86 million Switch 2 units in year one, Nintendo guided for 16.5 million units in the following fiscal year as launch demand normalizes.
Nintendo told investors that Switch 2 sales were more concentrated in the launch year than previous hardware cycles. After 19.86 million units through March 2026, the company guided for about 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles in the next fiscal year.
That is still a strong pace
A year-over-year decline after a blockbuster open is normal, not a failure. Nintendo's framing is that cumulative sales after roughly 22 months would still sit ahead of the original Switch at the same life-cycle point, if the forecast holds.
For shoppers
Year-two hardware forecasts often coincide with better retail availability and more software choice. If you waited out launch queues, the next twelve months may be the calmer buying window.
